Biography


Following an acclaimed career as a concertmaster and violin soloist, Fredrik Burstedt has established himself as one of Scandinavia's most versatile and sought-after conductors, leading orchestras and opera productions throughout Sweden, the Nordic region, and Europe.

Fredrik has collaborated with all of Sweden's major professional orchestras and opera houses, including the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Swedish Opera. His international engagements have taken him to leading ensembles across the Nordic countries and Europe, including the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra, Odense Symphony Orchestra, Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, Staatskapelle Weimar, Nürnberger Symphoniker, and I Pomeriggi Musicali.

An experienced opera conductor, Fredrik has led productions of Janáček's The Cunning Little Vixen at the Gothenburg Opera; Bizet's Carmen and Martinů's The Greek Passion at Värmland Opera; Lehár's The Merry Widow, Rossini's La Cenerentola, and Rufus Wainwright's Prima Donna at the Royal Swedish Opera, Orfeo ed Euridice at Vattnäs Konsertlada, and Kirke Mechem's Tartuffe at Norrlandsoperan.

He has also conducted numerous opera world premieres, including Jonas Bolin's Tristessa at the Royal Swedish Opera, a production recognized as one of the five most significant opera premieres worldwide in that season. Other premieres include The Silver Bird by Mats Larsson Gothe, The War of Love by Paula af Malmborg Ward, The Norrmalmstorg Drama by Albert Schnelzer and Im Treibhaus by Staffan Storm.

Fredrik began his conducting studies with Jorma Panula and continued his training with Daniel Harding, Stefan Solyom, and Jukka-Pekka Saraste. He is the recipient of the Royal Swedish Opera's Sixten Ehrling Prize for Young Conductors and the prestigious Herbert Blomstedt Scholarship awarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Music.

In 2017, Fredrik received a Swedish Grammy Award for the portrait album of composer Mats Larsson Gothe, conducting the Västerås Sinfonietta and Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra.

The season 2026-2027 includes re-invitations to Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, Nordic Chamber Orchestra, Wermland Opera Orchestra, Dalasinfoniettan and Ensemble Gageego!
